We live in a divided time. There seem to be two groups of people that have very different perception of reality. Most likely you are yourself member of one of these groups. Most likely you never consciously decided to be in one or the other group, it just happened. And most of your friends happen to be in the same group.

Your family: not so much. Like most people, you have family members, that are in the other group, you know, whom I am talking about: it is that uncle/sister/nephew that you avoid talking about politics/religion/life, because he/she never gets it. And you never get, what he/she says.

This podcast explains why.

And as a bonus it will let you see how humankind will develop.

Wie die Geschichte macht, dass der Kaffee schmeckt

Eine Freundin ist Aktivistin. Wir unterhalten uns über Kaffee. Ich bestelle Kaffee immer im Internet, bei einem auf Kaffee spezialisierten Händler. Ich lege viel Wert auf die Qualität des Kaffees. Die Freundin trinkt immer Zapatisten-Kaffee, den bestellt sie auch im Internet, bei einer Kooperative. Der Erlös kommt den Zapatisten in Mexiko direkt zu Gute. “Der Kaffee schmecke auch ganz toll!” sagt die Aktivistin, die von sich sagt, sie sei eine leidenschaftliche Kaffeetrinkerin.

Ich überlege laut, ob denn der Kaffee der Zapatisten auch wirklich von guter Qualität sei. “Klar”, sagt die Aktivistin, “der wird ja auch in den ganzen linken Buchläden verkauft.”

“Naja”, sage ich, “als Indikator, ob ein Kaffee gut ist, würde ich eher nehmen, ob er auch in guten Kaffeeläden verkauft wird. Linke Buchläden sind nicht unbedingt ein Hort des guten Kaffees.”

Die Freundin hebt noch andere Vorzüge des Zapatisten-Kaffees hervor. Der Kaffee werde fair gehandelt, und zwar “nicht nur unter so einem Pseudo-Fair-Trade-Label sondern wirklich fair”.

Einige Tage nach unserem Gespräch bringt die Freundin eine Tüte Zapatisten-Kaffee und ich probiere gespannt. Der Kaffee ist gar nicht gut.

Der Freundin hingegen schmeckt  der Zapatisten-Kaffee besser als andere Kaffees, sie hat es immer wieder gesagt. Ich glaube es ihr, weil ich weiss, dass Geschmack unterschiedlich sein kann. Zahlreiche Faktoren bestimmen den Geschmack.

Die Geschichten, die man sich erzählt, sind auch Faktoren, die den Geschmack bestimmen.

Der Aktivistin schmeckt der Zapatisten-Kaffee vermutlich deshalb so gut, weil ihr die Geschichten vom Zapatisten-Kaffee so gut gefallen.

Das ist normal. Das geht jedem so.
